Metairie Small Animal Hospital Opens New Facility
17,000 SF Hospital Dedicated to Providing the Latest Advances in Animal Care

Metairie, LA – Since 1946, Metairie Small Animal Hospital (MSAH) has been caring for animals in the area with the latest technology and a healing touch. In its ongoing commitment to provide quality care, MSAH celebrates the opening of its new 17,000 square feet state-of-the-art facility at its Metairie Road location.

“We are proud to open our new facility and bring this level of service combined with our continuum of care to animals in the area,” says John Martin, president. “After 50 years in the business we were able to utilize our personal experience coupled with that of our specialized architectural team to create a first-class environment for animal care.”

Known for its progressive approach to training and equipment, MSAH features two modern surgical suites, capable of handling five surgeries at one time, and intensive care unit with the latest technology in monitoring and support equipment, including the highest quality anesthesia available. The hospital also provides 24-hour emergency services. MSAH veterinarians offer standard soft tissue surgeries, such as spaying and neutering as well as advanced surgeries, including thoracic surgery, diaphragmatic hernia repair, eye and ear surgeries, surgical biopsies, spinal, knee and hip surgeries, among others. MSAH is one of only two hospitals in the state to have been selected to participate in the Pain Management Seminar by the Pfizer Corporation, offering the opportunity for doctors and staff to better handle the treatment of pain, particularly during and after surgery.

The hospital is outfitted to perform a variety of diagnostic procedures, including Ultrasonography, Endoscopy for upper and lower GI studies, Cytology, Parisitology, Microbiology, Hematology, Broncoscopy, Doppler Blood Pressure, Serum Profile, Computerized EKG, ERG, and a full x-ray department, including mylogram and other contrast procedures.

Recognizing the importance of maintaining the oral and dental health of pets, MSAH operates a comprehensive dental suite for general exams, dental cleanings, extractions of diseased teeth, and radiology services to examine areas of the mouth that cannot be seen during a general exam.

In addition to the medical services provided, MSAH offers full-service boarding and grooming. All boarding animals are housed in climate controlled compartments and are monitored closely by doctors and staff 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays. Canine facilities include comfortable runs that are size-appropriate with elevated benches for resting. Some canine areas are accented with windows to alleviate stress and dogs are treated to walks in a special area at least three times a day. The feline boarding area is housed in a separate area of the hospital to offer seclusion and minimize stress. MSAH offers the ultimate in boarding with its “Kitty Condo” that comes equipped with elevated shelves on which a cat can rest or play, plus the option of reserving more than one compartment to give a pet the freedom to explore. The feline boarding room is also lined with windows for an entertaining view of the outdoors.

MSAH also employs a licensed groomer who works Monday through Saturdays to ensure pets look their best. The grooming room features a HydroSurge bathing system that massages a pet while distributing shampoo throughout their coat for a complete cleaning that’s also soothing. All pets are hand-dried to their fluffy best.

MSAH continues to go the extra mile with a Pick-up and Delivery Service. Through this service, a pet may be picked up from home and delivered to MSAH to receive treatment or services. MSAH also returns pets at a time convenient for clients. The Pick-up and Delivery Service also delivers food, supplies and medications right to client’s front door, with convenient pre-payment or payment upon delivery.

The pampered pet will appreciate MSAH’s exclusive pet boutique, The Silver Collar. Featuring everything a pet and pet-lover desires from food and supplies to designer carriers, clothing and gifts, The Silver Collar boasts 700 square feet of purr-fect paraphernalia for two and four legged-friends alike. “This is truly a one-of-a-kind shopping experience for pet-lovers, as we carry several exclusive items including Doggles sunglasses for dogs with 100% UV protection that help to keep dirt and debris out of their eyes and designer beds, raincoats and carriers for pets by Burberry,” says retail manager Carey Ginesi.

MSAH extends its care to charitable causes, and is proud of its support of Prevent Child Abuse Louisiana and its growing partnership with Looziana Basset Rescue, Inc. MSAH has worked with the non-profit organization for the past two years providing discounted veterinary care to rescued basset hounds all over the state. The only New Orleans hospital to provide care to the organization, MSAH treats approximately eight basset hounds every month that have been abandoned or mistreated.

The hospital will officially celebrate its Grand Opening on Saturday, June 14th.
